What can I do to get my dog to calm down so I can cut his nails?… by Kryst

June 21, 2008 · Filed Under pce · Comment

My dog will not let me touch his paws to cut his nails. I have heard benedryl or beer. I am just looking for something that I can get him either to sleep for about 15 mins or settle him down enough to do it. He is German Shepard mix and I am lost for ideas.

Best Answer:

For starters take him for a walk. At least 30 mins or an hour. Get the edge off him. You can't expect him to be good with all that energy. Throw a ball get him tired. You will probably both need a rest after that. A GOOD DOG IS A TIRED DOG. If you are having behaviour problems with your dog he is not getting enough exercise.
Benedryl may help. Not beer.
He needs to be trained to allow his feet handled.
Touch his toes give a tiny treat or a pce of his food. I don't want you to make your dog over weight. If he will eat his dog food as a treat hand feed him. Hold his feet and toenail for a second give a treat. he has to learn this is a good thing. Take little snips and give a pce of dog food after each snip to begin with or cut his treats small.
Instead of just dumping food into your. Put a little in his dish and pick up his foot and set it down and put in a little more food [if he is a real chow hound he may so happy to get food he won't care if you hold his foot as long as he is getting some food]. Pick up the other foot. gradually hold the nails a second give a pce of food.
Rig you up something to use as a grooming table. Deffinately Get him off the floor.[a friend used a piano bench or coffee table] If you can rig up a noose to tie him with like groomers do that might help give you the upper hand. Each nail a “good boy” in a high voice and a treat.
Most Groomers will trim your dogs nails for $5-$7. Most anytime unless they are extremely busy. You could do this once or twice and then maybe you could do it. 3 p's train him. Patience, Persistance and Plenty of Praise.
Contact your vet for help with medicine.
“Mom of three” above said it very well.

INVEGA is a treatment option for schizophrenia that offers powerful symptom control.

Lexapro is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Lexapro affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression or anxiety.

Remeron (mirtazapine) is used to treat major depressive disorder.

Toprol - a drug to treat high blood pressure, heart pain, abnormal rhythms of the heart, and some neurological conditions.

Lasix (furosemide) treats fluid retention in people with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or a kidney disorder

Lisinopril is used to treat hypertension, congestive heart failure and to improve survival after a heart attack.

dicyclomine (Bentyl), a drug used n the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.

KLor-Con -used for a preparation of potassium chloride or potassium bicarbonate

Xanax - panic disorder

Lithium Carbonate - varies I use for Bipolar Disorder

Amitriptyline is approved most commonly for the treatment of depression.

No worries really. My partner is on 30 medications daily. Morning and night total.

How long does it take cefadroxil to work?… by kelly

June 18, 2008 · Filed Under cefadroxil · Comment

I was diagnosed with tonsilitis and strep throat this morning and was put on cefadroxil (expensive as heck)
I've had my second does of it (per doctor's order) and there is not even a little difference. There is less pain, but i think that might be the vicodin talking. How long does it normally take to clear up?
** I mean that the actual swelling of my tonsils have not gone down. Its still swollen with white pus pockets.

Best Answer:

Cefadroxil is normally active within 1 1/2 to 2 hours but it's not a painkiller, it's an antibiotic so you won't necessarily feel pain relief from it.

If your throat continues to be sore, take paracetemol.

How long before muscle side effects start after taking Crestor?… by Carl

June 17, 2008 · Filed Under crestor · Comment

I feel stiff and achy, but I don't know if it started a week ago, two weeks or even earlier.

Best Answer:

I am on Crestor (my 3rd try of statins). I have a really bad rash from, what I believe is the Crestor. I stopped taking it for 2 days and the rash abated quickly. Then my heart doc said, since my quadruple bypass, that I have to be on a statin like Crestor…or Lipitor. As soon as I started back on the Crestor, the rash is getting worse now. So now I have to go see a dawg gone skin specialist to get tested. I believe side effects can appear very quickly. Go see your doctor and let me know what is going on. Good luck…

How do you treat a burn and the blisters?… by Create Z

June 17, 2008 · Filed Under silvadene · Comment

I got burned on my arm and now it is really red with small blisters. How do I treat this?

Best Answer:

Go see your doctor and ask for Silvadene cream. It comes in generic now. It is used on burn patients and works wonders. Do not pop the blisters. If you don't intend to see the doctor wash your hands and apply Neosporin or Johnson and Johnson first aid cream and cover it with a loose gauze. Take Tylenol or Motrin for pain. This is serious stuff. If you have the means to see a doctor please do so.
